Nile, Brought by Pain, The Unconscious Mind, Pallor Mortis
Live au Foufounes Électriques 21/04/14

English review will follow

The Unconscious Mind

Louis-Paul Gauvreau- Voix

Simon Cléroux- Guitare et Choeur

Michael Racine- Claviers

Simon Gauvreau- Basse

Brought By Pain

Samuel Ouimet- Voix

Kevin Chartré- Guitare

Olivier Bourbonais-Allaire- Guitare

Hugo Doyon-Karout- Basse

Gabriel Choinière-Fortin- Batterie

Nile

Karl Sanders – Guitare, Voix

Dallas Toler-Wade – Guitare, Voix

George Kollias – Batterie et Percussion

Todd Ellis- Basse

Conclusion

Cheers!

Nile, Brought by Pain, The Unconscious Mind, Pallor Mortis
Live at Foufounes Électriques 21/04/14

Hey what's up Metalheads! \m/iki Dom at the keyboard for Québec-Métal! I will once again guide you through this more than extraordinary evening!

The “Foufs” is a concert room that have had a long love story with metal bands from all over the world. Since my early teenage years, I have frequentlly been here to see my favorite “underground” bands. And tonight, I was really happy and excited to be able to taste their menu that featured, not only a egyptian flavored death metal, but also three of our amazing local scene's bands : Brought by Pain, The Unconscious Mind and Pallor Mortis. An evening that couldn't be anything by bodaciously excellente and demential!

Pallor Mortis

Vince O'Leary- Vox

Jessica Simard- Guitar

Peter Lountzis- Guitar

Jeff Jenkins- Bass

Jessy Normand- Drums

Pallor Mortis is still a rather young band. With the excellent “The Art Of Terror” album in their pockets, these musicians couldn't but give a breath-taking performance... Which they actually did! It's with the excellent  Vengeance Basks In Vestiges Of The Past, that the band attacked... a succesful assault!

«Surprise», «talent», «precision», qualifies this performance well! Jessicsa Simard and Peter Lountzis delivered a very precise duo, Jeff Jenkins on his part really amazed me with his great virtuosity. But it was Jessy Normand who amazed me the most : Oh man! What a speed! Wow! A solid performance coming from singer Vince O'Leary too! Supreme pleasure : they played every main songs from the album!

Super show from a very promissing band!

The Unconscious Mind

Louis-Paul Gauvreau- Vox

Simon Cléroux- Guitar and background vocals

Michael Racine- Keys

Simon Gauvreau- Bass

Charles-André Brodeur- Drums

I was very excited to see The Unconscious Mind on stage tonight. First of all because I was seeing them for the first time. Second of all because alongside Beyond Creation,  Kälter Simon Cléroux's other band Derelict, The Unconscious Mind is one of my favorite bands on the local scene.

After several technical problems, the band opened with Dream Jailed. What can I say other than I was sold out in advance! I absolutely adored the Where Philosophers Fall , I could only appreciate what I was seeing... and hearing! Being a HUGE fan of Simon Cléroux, this concert was like heaven to me! The virtuosity of Simon Gauvreau really impressed me too... especially since he delivered the chops with a broken string! But my biggest honorary mention certainly goes to drummer Charles-André Brodeur who almost played the whole set... with his eyes closed!!!!!!

To sum up the concert was really esxcellent. Ok in my opinion the song  Tale Of Creation was missing but they did play My Deadly Sin and Where Philosophers Fall which are amongst my favorites on the album! We also were treated to a new song called Follow The Heard... and since «new song» means «new album»... The best (if possible) is a yet to come!

A complete concert, that made me an even bigger Simon Cleroux fan!

Brought By Pain

Samuel Ouimet- Vox

Kevin Chartré- Guitar

Olivier Bourbonais-Allaire- Guitar

Hugo Doyon-Karout- Bass

Gabriel Choinière-Fortin- Drums

What is there to say about Brought by Pain... Armed with their incomprehensive and demential progressive death metal... This band can only intrigue fans of the genre... We have to mention that this band got among its ranks my favorite local scene metal guitarist who also plays in Beyond Creation, the amazing and very kind Kevin Chartré. Brought by Pain can also count on the technical wizard, Olivier Bourbonnais-Allaire and on the incredible talent of teen bassist Hugo Doron-Karout...

I was seeing them for the first time without original drummer, Guyot Begin-Benoit. It's not that Gabriel Choinière-Fortin isn't talented it's actually the exact opposite but in my opinion he lacks the finess and virtuosity of his predecessor. He plays what he has to without energy and passion... Bummer...

A perfect performance of a great virtuosity and a breath-taking virtuosity! A band that may not be adapted for everybody mais that will surely intrigue fans of the genre!

Nile

Karl Sanders – Guitar, Vox

Dallas Toler-Wade – Guitar, Vox

George Kollias – Drums and Percussion

Todd Ellis- Bass

Tonight's headliner was the band Nile, These veteran of the South Carolina's metal scene were setting foot on canadian soils for the first time of their carreer. Principal reason for all the fuss this occasioned. Fans were excited and impatient. And with good reasons! After all it took this band 21 years to come to Montreal and believe you me the fans were ready and most of all they were energized! A dream come true! Wow! I was as excited as everybody in this room!

After a good 25 minutes of setups and sound checks, the show finally started. It was on! The brutal guitar sound busted our eardrums and a very violent mosh pit took the Foufs floor by surprise! The band delivered a very varied set list playing many of their classics (The Blessed Dead, Black Seed Of Vengeance) and some more recent material too  (Enduring The Eternal Molestation Of Flame, The Inevitable Degradation Of Flesh). Drummer George Kollias has encountered many technical difficulties during the course of the show... But nothing seems to be able to stop this metal drumming beast!

An everlasting wait to see this epic band, but a concert that satisfied every metalhead that was lucky enough to have made it in this room!

Conclusion

This evening has been more than a succes! Imagine : my two favorite quebecois guitarists, Kevin Chartré and Simon Cléroux, and Nile's first visit in Montreal... for the price of one ticket!

Detroit may claim they are the «Rock City»... But Montreal is surely the «Metal City»!

With all that said, thanks a lot for ready my column and stay metalheads!

A Special Thanks to Extensive Entreprise for this concert !!

Cheers!
