Concert Review: Queensryche live in Quebec City (sept 17th 2015)

(english will follow)

Queensrÿche a L’Impérial Bell, Québec – 17 septembre 2015

Ce dernier est consister des excellents Queen Of The Reich, Jet City Women et Take Hold Of The Flame.

Queensrÿche at L’Impérial Bell, Québec – September 17th 2015

There festive atmosphere that reigns in the City Of Quebec since the beginning of the week has reached the Imperial Bell theater for the long awaited return of Queensrÿche with Metalord as opening act. The last time the band hailing from Seattle played here was way back in 2003, so it is only normal to find several fans waiting impatiently for the doors of the venue to open.

The band Metalord arrives on stage in front of a big crowd which does not know what to expect, even if they are a local band, few people know their music. The singer (Mark) and the drummer (A-J) ask for the crowd to make more noise several times and as their show progresses, the louder the crowd gets. The members are dynamic on stage and have a lot of pleasure playing in front of their biggest audience. The thrash influences and the energy of Devil's Legacy, Kiss My Eyes and the title track of their first album (Speed Of Life) are greatly appreciated by the crowd. Even if the lights are a little too dark in the beginning of their performance, it is quickly a thing of the past and it does not stop the fans to show their enthusiasm for their music. Metalord is a band well worth listening to and that will be seen again on stage in the near future.

The crowd becomes very loud as soon as Queensrÿche gets on stage. It is with the successions of Anarchy X, The Needle Lies and Breaking The Silence that the band led by signer Todd La Torre gets the attention of crowd of the Imperial Bell theater. Todd’s voice is very good and is comparable to that of Geoff’s in his glory years with the band. The band continues to play old songs like Walk In The Shadows, En Force and Warning. The fans surprise the band during this last one by singing the words with Todd from start to finish. Michael Wilton is the only one on stage when he plays the melody of their biggest hit (Silent Lucidity), for the huge pleasure of the crowd that does not hesitate to sing their lungs out once again with Todd. The band also takes this opportunity to play recent songs like Where Dreams Go To Die (from their self-titled album released in 2013) as well as the first single (Arrow Of Time) of their new album called Condition Human. Even if these newer songs are not as known by the fans, they are well received and flow very well with the older songs. Now that the promotion of newer songs is a thing of the past, the band plays a succession of shiver generating classics like I Don’t Believe In Love, NM156 and The Lady Wore Black. The musicians are very dynamic on stage, more particularly Parker Lundgren that does not hesitate to play on the edge of the stage and interact with the crowd throughout their performance. The very good Eyes Of A Stranger and Empire will boost once again the crowd which is now very sweaty from all this head banging.  Eddie Jackson throws many water bottles in the crowd in order to give them a second breath for the encore. This will consist of Queen Of The Reich, Jet City Women and Take Hold Of The Flame.

For those who had doubts, Queensrÿche is back and they are also as good as ever! Many fans drove a few hours to see them do a headline show and were not disappointed at all. The band did not know what to expect from this off date in Quebec City, but, judging by the huge smile of the band members on stage, I’m pretty sure we will not have to wait another twelve years before seeing them again!
