Festival Review: Motocultor Day 3 - St-Nolff, Bretagne, France (august 16th 2015)

(english will follow)

On a le droit à de nouvelle pièce du nouvel album Of Ghosts and Gods comme Soul Destroyer mais aussi a certain classique comme: At the Edge of the World ou Taking the World by Storm et beaucoup plus encore.

MOTOCULTOR METAL MARKET

Motocultor  Day 3   August 16, 2015 (St-Nolff, Brittany, France)

Day 3 is the last day of the festival, which until now is a musical success in every aspect. I got up early, perhaps too early, because even before the media section - VIP is not open, But i was preparing for my day by recharging the batteries all of my devices. I wanted to be ready especially for today, the last day, because the time line is different. The first group will begin soon and the last will end sooner compared to the two previous days. And today we have the right to the top as a choice of band, which does not mean that the other bandss were not before! Judge for yourself; Kataklysm - Krisiun - Sepultura - Trivium - Septicflesh and Opeth. Is it not tempting?

Another beautiful day for wall-to-wall metal and everything begins with the Trash French group Hexecutor at 11:45. A good old school Trash which I did not know before and which I really liked. Because, above all, a power metal and trash fan, I was not disappointed. I even felt like I was back in the heyday of the 80s with the musicians clothings and their Slayer style studded bracelets. The musical style is the same; fierce and aggressive. A very good way to wake the festival goers who spent the night partying. A band to discover for those who do not know them yet.

HEXECUTOR

It is now the turn of Deficiency to storm the Supositor stage as last minute replacement of Machete. Deficiency really gave itself just as its predecessor officiating in a powerful Trash that even caused a wall of death early in the day. Another great discovery for me! It is really time that I begin studying French metal because it contains awesome treasures until now unknown in Quebec. The wall of death, despite the small crowd because still not yet quite ready, took place on the song The Experiment.

DEFICIENCY

Clteater now stormed the Dave Mustage. For those who do not know it, it is a Netherlands band who officiates in a grind bordering death register. Their performance at Motocultor was really powerful and crazy which delighted the crowd that gradually became bigger and stood up to their reputation. The band leaves nothing behind and when the musicians are on stage it is to wreak havoc and this was the case.
Definitely this really is a festival that has given me happiest with all these Trash bands.

CLITEATER

On Supositor Stage, Verbal Razors will be no exception with an old school Trash, but with a modern touch without removing his pedigree. Another great discovery from France. A direct, playful delivery with the fastest rhythm.

VERBAL RAZORS

Alcest embarks on Dave Mustage, but unfortunately their progressive metal with atmospheric flavor is struggling to get to me, which does not detract from the obvious talent of the musicians. I find that playing after more Trash or Grind bands, their music is not flowing so well. So I must confess that I did not stay long. Thousands apologizes to Alcest. It should be noted that in September, the group will still be touring Canada.

ALCEST

For the next band including Quebeckers compatriots, I must say that the day before their performance, myself and the drummer, had planned a scenario. That is to say, that the concert would be started talking pure Quebec French language. This is Dopethrone who officiates in a very stoner register but hyper-energetic. To my surprise, before the Massey Ferguscene, fans are waiting in a large number. With four albums, the latest entitled Hochelaga (a Montreal district), the three musicians on stage were able to make the audience groovy. The singer and guitarist like to make faces and almost robotic movements while the bassist has serious and rough looks and is applicated to his playing. There is the drummer who throughout the performance keeps a strong playful smile. Superb performance of these Quebeckers.

DOPETHRONE

Unfortunately I learn from my media colleagues that there was a press conference by the head of the Motocultor. Not having been informed, I missed it. So I'll try to sum what my colleagues have told me about this conference. The 2015 edition of Motocultor is a success across the board. We thanked Quebeckers of their presence and there will of another edition in 2016. By con, the future of the festival is uncertain for 2017 because the festival would need outside investors for survival. I sincerely hope this will happen for the Motocultor as it is a beautiful, human and friendly festival.

Following this, I headed to the Supositor Stage for Antropomorphia. Armed with white painted faces and a bloody singer, this Black Metal band comes to lay its blackness in the crowd. A dark Black Metal which the crowd seems to enjoy. For my part, although I'm not really a fan of this style, I must admit I enjoyed the band show. The musicians do not stay still and are moving effectively on the scene.

ANTROPOMORPHIA

A stampeded back to the Dave Mustage for the Quebec band Kataklysm. It will start a Death Metal wave that will leave traces. As is customary, we have the right to a crowd that makes mosh pit and body surfing without stopping even up to injuring a security guard in the pit between the stage and the audience. We have the right to new songs of the new album Of Ghosts and Gods like Soul Destroyer but also some classics like: At the Edge of the World and Taking the World by Storm and many more. Another time Kataklysm proved it is not the best in their style for nothing. It is always prompt, so powerful and so tight.

KATAKLYSM

On Supositor Stage, the Brazilian band Krisiun is preparing to play a Death Metal, more old school style but no less effective. They are only three on stage but we do not having this impression as the band plays aggressively and with so much power. The singer has a fat and powerful voice. Another fine performance, especially while the song Combustion Inferno, one could swear they are five to perform so there are many different sounds.

KRISIUN

Back on the Dave Mustage is Sepultura's turn to offer a large boosted audience a Trash flavored with Death. Just like Krisiun, Sepultura also comes from Brazil. The band is smiling and frankly showed their pleasure of being in Motocultor. Several classical from the repertoire are played as Roots Bloody Roots - Propaganda - Ratamahatta - Under my Skin - Refuse / Resist and much more. Derrick Green spoke to the crowd and announced, like all usually do, that this was the best public of the tour. Which in my opinion is not totally wrong because the crowd at Motocultor is completely wild and fun as ever?

SEPULTURA

I had to take a break to feed myself and prepare myself as the band Trivium is preparing to attack the Dave Mustage. There is a large banner covering the front of the stage and hiding what is behind. As soon as the curtain falls we discover a scene heavily garnished with a wonderful decor. The band, which is on tour in Europe, travels with a gear for large spaces to our delight. The pit is completely filled with festival goers dedicated to Trivium. The band gratified us with some of his success as Throes of Perdition as well as new songs like Until the World Goes Cold and In Waves as an encore. The singer Matt Heafy thanked the crowd for coming and said in French thank you. A powerful metal show with trash aspects here and there. Throughout the concert, the musicians showed us their flawless professionalism and also their pleasure to be there.

TRIVIUM

Unfortunately again the time difference, I still have not managed to get rid of, caught up with me and I missed Septicflesh and Opeth show (if next year I still have a Media accreditation, I will arrive several days early and sleepi in a hotel).

SEPTICFLESH

So now is the time for me to talk about the festival as such. I'll start with the negative points, first on the side of food; I found it hard to wait in line to buy coupons to sustain myself. Being used, in several festivals, to being offered concessions from different types and for all tastes, I believe that independent concessions would be an asset to the Motocultor. My second negative point would be the photo media pass from last year I received instead a new pass updated with the 2015 colors.

As you could see, I have no negative points to itself to say about the festival. There were high quality band with an obvious professionalism and really impeccable sound. Yes, some little glitches here and there, but in a festival context, this is normal. I really liked the layout of the scenes because all had easy access and a perfect space for the thousands of spectators on site. A well located metal market with many kiosks to buy good metal stuff, protected in a large tent. Ah! I forgot the originality of the gentlemen pipicultor. As the Motocultor is a human sized festival and not disproportionate. I recommend this festival to all Quebeckers who want to plan a vacation for August 2016.
