Concert Review: Lich King in Montreal (july 25th 2014)

Lich King, Mutank, Trainwreck Architect et Reanimator, Live a l’Alizé- 25/07/14
English review follows

Trainwreck Architect

Simon Ouellet- Voix
Raza Ali khan- Guitare
Renaud Baril- Guitare
Eric Litinas- Basse
Marc-Antoine Blackburn- Batterie

Mutank
Stephen Reynolds – Voix et Basse
Steven Breen – Guitare rythmique et chœur
Ahmed Saad – Batterie
Liam Hinchey – Guitare Solo

Lich King

Tom Martin- voix
Rob Pellegri- guitar solo
Brian Westbrook- batterie
Nick Timney- basse
Joe Nickerson- guitar rhythmique

Conclusion

Cheers!

Lich King, Mutank, Trainwreck Architect and Reanimator, Live at l’Alizé- 25/07/14

What’s up metalheads, \m/iki Dom for Quebec Metal on this thrash metaL themed night featuring the best of the best including the winner of the Wacken Open Air Metal Battle Canada 2014 : Mutank as well as l’Assomption’s Reanimator, Montreal’s Trainwreck Architect and the headliners : Ontario’s Lich King… A very thematic night but also really appreciated and appropriate to make uns bang our heads good!
Thrash metal… This metal sub-genre that started at the beginning on the 80’s in southern USA, more precisely in California, with bands such as Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer as well as Brooklyn’s Anthrax, The Big 4 of Thrash… The flame has been supported by many other bands from that specifi region like Testament and Exodus… That style lasted for a good while but also faded rather quickly which is really sad only to leave rubbles and vague but beautiful memories…
The only thing left tonight was to see what this evening had in store and to appreciate this now more obscure music but still so appreciated by the purists!

Reanimator
Patrick Martin- Vox
Ludovic Bastien- Guitar
Joël Racine- Guitar
Fred Bizier- Bass
Francis Labelle- Drums

Reanimator! This young thrash band hailing from l’Assomption in Lanaudière is still a rather young band on the local scene but still doesn’t need anymore introductions… Their thrash metal and especially their cover of Jerry Lewis’s Great Balls Of Fire is well known all over the province... Like back in the days when Anonymus and Overbass covered La Bamba or when Groovy Aardvaark covered Felix Leclerc’s Le P’tit Bonheur... As solid as always on stage this band gives all they got with passion and energy... dirty ballsy thrash describes the guys of Reanimator so well... I love the complicity of the guitar duo who delivers precise and relaxed attacks... They played the awesome Great Balls EP in its entirety which was nothing but awesome and what a performance! A solid band worth the praise of the greats of the genre! But the question that is still on everybody’s lips is... When will they release the next full length album? Excellent triple A performance

Trainwreck Architect

Simon Ouellet- Vox
Raza Ali khan- Guitar
Renaud Baril- Guitar
Eric Litinas- Bass
Marc-Antoine Blackburn- Drums

Trainwreck Architect it’s rock at 100 miles an hour... It’s in your face thrash n roll... Trainwreck Architect reinvent themselves at every show and only evolves in the right direction... Forward! Always on fire singer Simon Ouellet definitely is the star of this band, the guy we want to see... He gives everything he’s got on stage with brutal headbanging and his very own form of dancing and moving! A breathe of fresh air that feels so nice! Delivering songs from their excellent Traits Of The Sick album after another... This rather too short performance in my opinion was of demesured and brilliant quality... We even were treated to two new songs including the one titled Deep Into The Pit, which probably means the coming of a new record soon! I always loved Trainwreck Architect and it will probably never change! A breathe-taking performance that was worth the price of the ticket alone!

Mutank
Stephen Reynolds- Vocal and Bass
Liam Hinchey- Lead Guitar
Steven Breen- Rhythm Guitar and Back Vocals
Ahmed Saad- Drums

Mutank, this band that everybody talks about right now. Mutank the winners of the Wacken Open Air Metal Battle Canada 2014 and that will also represent Canada at the festival in Germany... Yes Mutank is all that and so much more because it also is a crossover thrash band in the likes of Municipal Waste... They have the influences that’s for sure! The band keeps a rather sober attitude on stage but still stays interesting to watch... This sub-genre stay rather inaccessible for many people because of its speed and noise but Mutank knows how to keep their audience focused and well occupied with their brutal circle pits... It’s only the beginning for the guys of Mutank and they have a bright future ahead of them!

Lich King
Tom Martin- vocals
Rob Pellegri- lead guitar
Brian Westbrook- drums
Nick Timney- bass
Joe Nickerson- rhythm guitar

Boasting 10 years of 4 albums worth of music experience, Lich King, named after the legendary World Of Warcraft character, This band of jolly metal dudes answer to nobody but themselves… Having toured the entire country more than once they are now considered one of the veteran and most prolific metal act in the country… Tonight they have served us a nice blend of what Lich King is all about with its incredible dual guitar attack, its roaring high pitched vocalist and one of the tightest rhythm section…. These guys know what they are doing and they do it well and to finish the sentence they gave us fellas hell… (Thanks Paul!) An awesome setlist of both classic kick ass material and newer more finessed one.. That show was nothing but a good time for both the band and us!

Conclusion

Awesome night, awesome bands, awesome time... nothing more to say!

With that said this was \m/iki Dom saying good night take care and stay metalheads!

Cheers!
