Concert Review: Metallica live in Québec City (Colisée Pepsi - august 14th 2015)

(english will follow)

Metallica Live a Quebec (Colisée Pepsi, 14 août 2015)

On a eu droit entre autres à The Heaviest Matter of the Universe et L’enfant Sauvage.

R.I.P. COLISÉE PEPSI (1949-2015)

Metallica Live in Quebec City (Colisée Pepsi, august 14th 2015)

It is with a good mood and a contagious excitement that I hit the road to Quebec City, because tonight we have a first in history. Indeed, the “four Horsemen” are given two concerts in the historic old city and, tonight, we are entitled to the last show in the legendary Pepsi Coliseum. We even have the right, as a bonus, to the French group Gojira who is opening the evening. Everything is in place for an anthology moment. Upon our arrival, the audience is already beginning to be pretty big, the stands are filled gradually ... We already feel a great excitement in the amphitheater.

At 7:30 pm sharp, Gojira entered the stage with the song Oroborus and lights up the fuse for this memorable evening. True to their habit, Gojira poured its rage in our face and without compromise. A corrosive metal music sound, music that makes your guts vibrates. We were treated among others with The Heaviest Matter of the Universe and l’Enfant Sauvage. The band was welcomed timidly by the crowd which looked sleepy and unresponsive but people were there for Metallica. Gojira made a good impression and the musicians have shown they are capable of being in the big leagues. I am confident that the band has found new fans in Quebec City tonight.

I had seen them a few times and as usual, it hits hard, it is intense and powerful. I really loved the performance of Gojira. It was still quite funny to be sitting in the stands to see them. Although opening for Metallica is hard work, the guys from Gojira have easily met the challenge. After a longer intermission than usual, the show began with about 20 minutes behind schedule. On the other hand, this has not disturbed the crowd that is simply having fun singing and doing waves during the wait!!!

It was under acclamations of the conquered crowd beforehand that the first notes of the intro of The Estasy of Gold started. This crowd is standing from beginning to end, singing, clapping the hands, fists raised well ... it's really nice to see. There was energy as I have rarely seen in a show and I've seen a lot. There was a huge stage, no screen, no artifice and only a small enclosure that can accommodate a hundred lucky fans who were able to attend the show in this little '' SkakePit '. It's a very 'old school as stage. Laser games in the second part of the show were very impressive. The sound, despite the vagaries of the Pepsi Coliseum, was excellent. Metallica is now a professional business, a big machine and not much is left behind during their show. I am a very big fan of Metallica since their inception, having seen it more than twenty times. This Coliseum closing evening was, for me, a Monday night where almost everything was there. My favorite band, an historic show and an electrifying crowd from start to finish.

I was, unfortunately, disappointed with the set list. I myself created too many expectations as it was announced to be an old stuff evening.  I was fantasising to hear lots of old pieces rarely performed.
But, unfortunately, it was only the staging that was vintage. But hey, this is a very personal opinion and does not detract from the quality of the show we saw and yes I still love Metallica and I already look forward to wednesday at Vidéotron Center
