On a very rainy Tuesday, I was not very motivated myself to go see a show. But what better way to cheer me up than listening to live metal music. Tonight, four Canadian Power Metal band come to perform on the Coop les Katacombes stage. Due to rain, there are not many people there and the show starts a little later. It is difficult to make people get out of their homes!!

The first band Merkabah is a discovery for me. Yet it exists since 2002 and has three albums to his credit. This is a band from Quebec and this is the first time it comes to do a show in Montreal. The melodic Heavy Rock songs flow very well. The charm of the singer, Jacinthe Poulin, immediately pleases everyone. She has a gorgeous honeyed rocker voice and sometimes alto voice. The band, also consisting of two guitarists, a bassist and a drummer, all seem to have a lot of fun and the chemistry between them is great and palpable. Merkabah has a song register from melodic to more intense, which makes it a very interesting show. It was a great discovery! While talking with Jacinthe before the show, she suggested that the band was working on a fourth album.

The band SuddenFlames continued the evening. The Quebec band has delivered a strong performance with its Heavy and Power Metal songs. The singer is very dynamic and is working tirelessly to get the small crowd involve. He has not deterred and kept a captivating attitude throughout the show. The other band members are more focused on their respective instruments which they all play very well. The technical side of this band is great, but the compositions have not embraced me. This is a very personal opinion and it does not diminish the musician’s talent of.

Unleash the Archers came from Vancouver to launch us his powerful music in the face. This band managed to lift the crowd. The Power Metal, tinged with Death Metal songs are extremely effective. The singer, Brittney Slayes, is hyper dynamic on stage and unfortunately for her, the scene of Katacombes is small.  It is probably really fun to see her perform on a big stage. Congratulations to her also for the costume and stage presence. She keeps the crowd attentive and active. The other band members are also dynamic and their technique is amazing. The Power Metal rhythms, it's fast! The two guitarists, bassist and drummer are all very fit. I saw them do their warm-up before the show. Yes, they warm up like athletes! The band compositions are catchy and you can feel the intensity that emanates from it. Unleash the Archers songs originality explains the fact that the band is popular and interesting. It is Power Metal, but there is a Death Metal touch. The growl of one of the guitarist is also very intense. The length of his cries; phew! Brittney's voice is very powerful and acute, too much for my taste. This is, again, a personal opinion. Her voice never loses strength, although she is constantly moving. This was a very appreciable show visually and musically.

Crimson shadows accepted to play instead of Hibria who had to cancel all is North America shows.  When Crimson Shadows began its show, there were a few more people in the Coop les Katacombes. It must be said that this Toronto band was the big winner of the global Wacken Battle in 2013, which allowed them to sign a contract with Napalm Record. The band released Kings Among Men under this label and received a good review on this second full album. You could say it enjoyed a good reputation and rightly so. The bands Melodic Power Metal and Death Metal songs are powerful and incredible. The musicians are virtuosos. They play fast and accurately. I saw them to do their warm up such as athletes before their show. The songs frenetic pace makes it extreme songs and the melodic side brings an epic atmosphere. One feels the warrior chants in the compositions and a sense of victory comes from it. It's very catchy. The band members, consisting of the singer, two guitarists, a bassist and a drummer, are very active and interact with the crowd that continues to unleash itself. Despite the songs speed, Crimson Shadows members remain tight throughout their show. It was a very interesting and impressive performance.
