Scorpions at the Bell Centre
Hits and nostalgia, a few lengths

This Scorpions show review is in collaboration with Nicholas Dumont of the Daily Rock Quebec.

Last Saturday night, the Bell Centre hosted a beautiful Rock Arena evening which didn’t happen for a long time. Indeed, the German band Scorpions came to present his 50th birthday Return to Forever tour. To add to the fun, the excellent band Queenryche acted as first part. The evening was more than promising.
Indeed, two bands of my generation that I especially appreciated during my teenage years came for an evening to bring us back in that glorious 80-90s hard rock eras.

A very large crowd is already present when the Seattle band made its entrance on stage. The band sounds like a ton of bricks, the sound is very good and this from the beginning of the evening.

The band Queensryche (version with Todd Torres as a singer), literally succeeded his return to Montreal soil (first time of this version of the band in Montreal). The band performed several songs from their previous albums, only one song from their new album; Arrow of time. It was pure auditory bliss. Powerful in his old repertoire, the band performed gems such as; Eyes of a Stranger, Walk in the Shadow and the beautiful Queen of the Reich. Certainly the vast majority of the crowd would have taken longer, to see the ovation that the band has received. I am convinced that even the band members had chills and they would have liked to play longer...

I remember very much as a young pimply teenager when I saw Scorpions for the first time in 1985. I had been marked by the energy of the band during the show.

Today, even though the band has grown older and that has undergone some changes, it remains that Scorpions is a big machine of energetic rock and they have easily proved it to us last Saturday.
On a huge stage with a giant screen at the back, Scorpions made its entrance with thousands of spectators cheering loudly.  The band proved why it was still there 50 years later.

There were maybe certain lengths during the show, some solos could have been slightly shortened or completely removed and we would have been entitled to one or two more songs but this is purely a personal opinion. I especially liked the little medley of the most unknown songs of the 70s. The new songs are in the tradition of Scorpions classics; you can listen to it very well. But it really is when Scorpions plays its big hits like; The Zoo, Big City Night Blackout, No One Like You, Rock You Like a Hurricane, the atmosphere in the Bell Centre is just beautiful; to give us chills. Saturday night, we sang, we cried, we liked. For a moment, I thought I became a teenager again, this wonderful era when we were young ... wild and free!!!!!
